Transform your Morning Routine with this Capsule Work Wardrobe

How long do you spend getting dressed in the morning? Be honest. Think about the last few days. What were you thinking when you walked into the closet before work? Would you believe it if I told you that it takes me 30 seconds or less to get dressed every morning?

What’s the secret? An affordable, classic work capsule wardrobe! There are so many fantastic reasons to simplify your wardrobe. You’ll reduce decision fatigue, save precious time and help out your budget.

Building a capsule wardrobe is refreshingly simple. Choose a color scheme and stick to it. Buy clothes that fit well and are appropriate to your lifestyle. Choose versatile pieces that work together.

Capsule Work Wardrobe

What are the components of a capsule work wardrobe?

Here’s the detail: I’ve constructed a capsule work wardrobe based on my own clothes. The wardrobe has 10 pieces for a combination of 18 outfits. With the addition of shoes, tights and a winter coat, this capsule work wardrobe will get you through all four seasons. Best of all, it takes less than a minute to put the pieces together each morning.

The capsule work wardrobe contains two blazers, three sheath dresses, two shirts, one cardigan, two pairs of pants and tights. You’ll notice a few things here. First of all, I’ve followed capsule work wardrobe guidelines to pick two neutrals, plus two or three accent colors. In this case, black and gray are the wardrobe neutrals, with teal green and blue as accent colors.

What do I need to prioritize when I build the capsule work wardrobe?

Versatility

It’s critical to make sure that the items work together in a variety of ways. In this capsule work wardrobe, the blazers and cardigan can be worn with the dresses and pants. The shirts can be mixed and matched with the pants. This collection ends up giving you 18 outfits – almost 4 work weeks of clothes, without repeating any outfit. Check out all of the variations!

Multi-Season

You’ll also notice that this capsule work wardrobe is multi-season. A sheath dress or pants and a top will get you through the summer feeling cool. Don’t forget to bring a cardigan or blazer to the office to combat the air-conditioning chill. In the spring and fall, when it gets a bit cooler, throw on a blazer or cardigan in the morning and wear all day. And when it’s really chilly in the winter, add tights when wearing a dress. Voila! The base items are the same, but they can be layered to match the weather conditions.

Budget-Friendly

This capsule work wardrobe is easy and affordable. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have a lot of time to spend shopping in a store, or even shopping online. A capsule work wardrobe can’t require too much of an investment of time or money. The capsule work wardrobe minimizes the number of pieces you’ll need to buy because it emphasizes pieces that go together. You’ll have to add shoes, undergarments and a winter coat (if it’s needed in your area). Then you’ll have a complete wardrobe that’s very easy to personalize. This capsule work wardrobe is also awesome if you’re heading back to work postpartum and need to get some work clothes in a different size.

Capsule Wardrobes are Awesome for Working Moms

I love this approach to building a capsule work wardrobe for a few reasons. If you’re a parent, you’re usually busy getting your kids going in the morning, in addition to making yourself presentable. We working parents need all the time we can get when things are hectic in the morning. When you streamline your closet, you can focus on your family and your career, not on what you’re putting on in the morning. And I call that a huge win for working moms everywhere!
