Embrace the Art of Giving Gifts (Even When You’re Busy) With an Idea List in Trello
My best friend from college is an awesome gift-giver. Even back in college (don’t ask how long ago), she could always remember the random thing someone asked for three months before their birthday or Christmas. I was always kind of jealous of her ability! I wanted to be thoughtful but there was no way I could remember what someone mentioned months before an occasion. Now that I have kids, it’s reached a whole new level. My older daughter’s birthday is in February, and I think she’s been adding things to her birthday list since last July.
It’s so handy to have a running list of gift ideas, but how to easily keep it updated and accessible?
Enter Trello, my favorite task management system. If you’re like me, and want to be a thoughtful gift-giver but can never remember ideas in the moment, this system is definitely for you!
Create a Board
First, create a board called “Gift Ideas”. Next, add a properly festive background photo (of course)! Instead of the typical Kanban lists (To Do, Doing, Done), make a list for each family member (including yourself!). Here’s what my list looks like:
Add Ideas
When someone emails an idea, or tells you verbally, simply add it to the proper list. No more searching your email, or your memory! Do you think I would have remembered that my older daughter wants a fidget spinner with glitter and lights for her birthday? I doubt it!
Embrace the Art of Giving with This Technology Hack
I love this little trick for remembering gifts. Not only do I feel like a much better gift-giver, but it takes me much less time. Almost every year, I wait until the last minute (surprise!) and then have to wrack my brain for an idea. This year, it took me about 5 minutes to order my husband’s super-awesome birthday presents. If there’s one thing I love, it’s saving time.
Now you know the secret to being an awesome gift-giver….and that I want some new plates for my birthday! Enjoy!
