There are things that make life just a little better – a little cozier, a little brighter, a little more enjoyable. Those are the things I want to talk about today! Will this list change your life? Probably not. But will it make the life you have a bit happier? Absolutely!

La Croix

OK, I realize I’m totally late to the party here. Like, years late. But I recently started drinking La Croix at those times when I would usually have a snack and it’s amazing. It feels fun, tastes good and the carbonation seems to fill me up somehow.

Hot Toddy Tea

On the other end of the spectrum, when my throat gets sore I love love love making my version of a hot toddy. Two Bigelow Orange Tea bags in a large mug with hot water, plus a tiny bit of honey (a little goes a long way), about a tablespoon of lemon juice and a splash of whiskey. It really soothes my throat and feels so good when I’ve been coughing. It’s just as good without the whiskey

Fire and Candles

Something about the holiday season makes me want to light candles and curl up in front of the fire! At this time of year, we sometimes eat breakfast by candlelight or turn on the fire for a few minutes when we get home in the evening. Something about the flickering light of a candle or fire makes the whole house feel cozy.

Christmas Music to Power Through

Back when I was in college, I had the hardest time making it through the last bit of the semester before winter break. You always had to finish exams, projects and papers before you could head home for the holidays. To make it tolerable, I would put on some Christmas music and power through. This trick works just as well today. Put a holiday mix on Spotify and crank through your work. Cookies and twinkling lights are on the other side!

Really Good Coffee

I’m kind of a coffee snob, and it’s even more important to me when the weather gets colder. I need my morning coffee for warmth and caffeine. And since I can only have one cup per day, it’s got to be good. Since last Christmas, we’ve been using the Secura burr grinder and French press to make our morning coffee and it’s so yummy. To raise the bar even more, our friend just came back from Hawaii with a few pounds of Kona coffee beans for us. Double yum.

Gloves

My hands get so cold and dry, especially when I’m standing at the bus stop or walking between buildings. That’s why I’ve started taking gloves everywhere I go. Even if it’s not really that cold, my hands seem really sensitive to cold now (guess that’s what happens in your late 30’s?). So I’m really happy to have my toasty gloves.

Golf Umbrella

When our daughter started Kindergarten last year and began riding the bus, my husband bought this giant golf umbrella for us to use at the bus stop. I admit, I teased him about it a little bit. It’s really giant and seemed like overkill. But darned if I haven’t used that umbrella on every rainy day since. We recently had a week where it rained hard all day, every day for five or six days. We didn’t break our “walk to the bus stop” streak due to that trusty umbrella.

Bobeau One Button Fleece Cardigan

I got the Bobeau fleece cardigan for Christmas last year and I wasn’t too sure about it at first. So I took it to the office and IT HAS BEEN A LIFESAVER. Truly. When the office is cold, I throw that sweater on and I swear it actually makes my outfit look better. And I’m warm.

6 am Workouts

You’re probably thinking that this seems like a weird love, and normally I would agree with you. But I’ve started experimenting with different exercise times and 6 am seems to strike a pretty great balance. It don’t have to wake up at a time that starts with 5 so I can still stay up until 10 or 10:30. I roll out of bed at 6, put some clothes on, lift in our home gym and am usually done by 6:40. That leaves me with a tiny slice of time before the kids get up to do a few chores, send some work emails or just chill. I start my day feeling so good when I do this!
