Working Mom Loves of the Month – January 2019

There are things that make life just a little better – a little cozier, a little brighter, a little more enjoyable. Those are the things I want to talk about today! Will this list change your life? Probably not. But will it make the life you have a bit happier? Absolutely!

Bluetooth Wireless Headphones in Rose Gold

You may not know this about me, but I wear hearing aids and thus have a strong preference for over the ear headphones. I hate taking my hearing aids out for ear buds because I’m afraid I’ll lose the hearing aids. And earbuds never seem to fit my ears well anyway. They bug me.

Two years ago I was coveting some Beats headphones but couldn’t justify spending the money. I bought these knock-offs for much less on Amazon and they’ve been awesome.

The battery life is fairly long (I’d say 5 hours or so) and the sound quality is good. The range is fine – I can walk around most of my downstairs (~1000 sq ft or so) without losing it but can’t go into the garage. The mic quality is very good and I have no issues taking calls on the headphones.

I’ve even worn these in the rain and they survived just fine.

Can’t beat it for only twenty bucks or so!

Asics PR Tights

The Asics PR capris are the ones I reach for again and again. The waistband is thick but not annoying. The material is relatively thin but sturdy and not shiny. These things totally stay put too. There is nothing worse than constantly hiking up your pants during a walk, especially if you’re wrangling a dog or kids or both. So I’m eternally grateful to have these capris in my wardrobe.

Best of all, these tights are very reasonably priced compared to some of the fancier workout clothes out there! (Looking at you, Lulu.)

After loving the capri version for years, I just bought some full-length tights and will report back. (Pssst taller ladies who hate cold ankles, they have tall sizes!)

Flannel Sheets

It’s chilly out there! That’s why I loooove having flannel sheets on our bed in the winter months. I’m thinking about getting some for my younger daughter, too. Her room is on the corner of the house and it gets really cold.

My only problem is that I reeeeeally don’t want to get out of bed for my morning run when I’m cozy in my flannel sheets. I somehow make it happen anyway. Usually.

Aeropress Coffee Maker

The Aeropress coffee maker is kind of a pain since it makes just one cup at a time, but I just love the coffee it makes. We ran low on beans and were limping along with the Aeropress yesterday (it requires less coffee grounds than the French Press) and darned if I didn’t like that cup of coffee much better than the French Press.

Library E-Books

I used to love going to the library and I still take my kids occasionally. But during a normal week, I really don’t have time to go to the physical library. I read e-books on my phone via the Kindle App 99% of the time. That’s why I cannot live without my library’s e-book service.

I can check out and download e-books in Kindle format and it is amazing. It’s a bit harder than just buying the book on the Kindle app, but at the price of free I’m willing to invest the time. If you’re an avid reader, this is for you.

Kindle Unlimited

On a similar note, if you read a lot you should check out Kindle Unlimited. For a small monthly fee, you’ll get access to a huge library of books. I usually read 3-4 Kindle Unlimited books a month, so it’s definitely worth it for me. You can check out the list of available titles to see if there’s something that appeals to you. I really like cozy mystery series and there are a bunch of them on Kindle Unlimited. I definitely get my money’s worth!

New Season of Top Chef

My love of Top Chef cracks me up because I hate to cook. I like to eat, though! My theory is that it’s fun to watch people do things I can’t do at all, like dancing and cooking.

The latest season is in Kentucky, so it’s basically one bourbon challenge after another. I don’t like cooking, but I do love bourbon. And some of the dishes the chefs have made so far have looked absolutely mouthwatering. Yum!

If you want something totally light to watch in the evening, Top Chef is it! (Also Project Runway and, again hilariously, Ink Master. I’m not into fashion and have zero tattoos yet somehow I find these shows fascinating.)
