Celebrating Valentine’s Day on Another Day

I still remember the first year my now-husband and I lived together. We tried to go out to a nice dinner on Valentine’s Day after work. We had no reservations and I think we tried 2-3 restaurants before giving up.

After that, we realized – we just didn’t care. Neither of us is really big on Valentine’s day, so we either celebrate it on another day or not at all. To be honest, it typically involves a weekend trip to our local brewery for a pint of their seasonal raspberry imperial stout.

Nest

Have I talked about this before? We installed our programmable thermostat about a year ago and it’s super handy for our yo-yo North Carolina weather. Last week, highs were in the 20s and today it was 79! The Nest seamlessly switches our house between heat and air conditioning, keeping us comfortable at all times without any effort.

Personal Supplies at the Office

There are a few things everyone needs to have in their desk. Here’s my list:

  • Floss
  • Lotion
  • Chapstick
  • Safety Pins
  • Bandaids
  • Brush or comb
  • Hair ties

Kid Travel

Traveling with kids always seems like a lot of work beforehand. And it is. You have to pack for them, anticipate any issues and of course pay for their plane tickets.

It takes effort to take kids places, but it’s so so worth it. Last month, we took our kids (4 and 6) to Colorado to ski and it was amazing. They both loved it – to the point that they want to move to the mountains. And my husband I love sharing this activity with our kids. It was well worth the effort and expense.

A Change of Scenery

This month, I worked from home some and also spent a day at a local college for an outreach event. It was super fun to have a change of scenery! I used to work from home, so I could work from my desk, bed, couch or deck. Now that I’ve been in an office environment for almost 5 years I’d almost forgotten how refreshing it is to change your work space once in a while. I loved the creativity this inspired!

Doggy Daycare

Two months ago, I didn’t know this was a thing. Now I am the biggest fan of doggy daycare. Our sweet rescue dog was in a foster home with another dog, so I think she’s a little lonely at our house without canine company. She LOVES playing with other dogs and it’s awesome for her to get that playtime.

Our daycare also offers grooming and nail trimming and baths so yay! Last week, my husband was traveling and the dog was stinky so she went to doggy daycare and came back clean. It’s awesome.

Ikea Drawer Organizers

If you visit my house, you will see Ikea drawer organizers everywhere. I love them. We Kondo’d my kids closets this month and I used a bunch of the drawer organizers in my 4 year old’s closet. I use them in my underwear/sock drawer. And we use them to organize the millions of tiny plastic toys the kids have. These even dry quickly so we can use them for bath toys. These bins are the best! I highly recommend.

Aquaphor

My kid’s skin gets SO dry and when that happens, most lotion will sting. That’s why we still use Aquaphor. It’s pretty stick so we usually only put it in on just before bedtime. It’s amazing to me how frequently we still use Aquaphor. I really thought we would phase it out after the kids were out of diapers, but we haven’t!
